Welcome to St. Brendan's in the Pines

We meet at 3:00 PM, every Sunday afternoon, at St. Brendan's House in rural Isanti, MN for a time of worship, fellowship and going deeper into the Word of God and prayer. Please send us a Facebook message or send an e-mail from our website (below) for more information.

What is St. Brendan's?

St. Brendan's in the Pines is a Christian missions support ministry and house-based church fellowship based outside of Isanti, MN in a home surrounded by almost 100 pine and spruce trees, and named in honor of St. Brendan the Navigator, a 4th century Celtic monk who traveled far and wide as what we would call today an evangelist and church planter.

At St. Brendan's, we provide a place where those returning from missionary service can rest, recover and return to America without the pressures of life in an urban environment. Our guest room is also open, as available, to missionaries on furlough from foreign assignment, or doing fundraising for their mission activities.

St. Brendan's Two-Wheeled Explorer and the Travelers Missions are our second area of ministry. The Travelers provide training for those going into the missions field. Participants will learn ways to travel when motorized vehicles are not an option, and how to live in an unfamiliar environment. Professional medical training for missionaries is also available for those who serve in areas without access to medical care. We have partnered with a number of other mission organizations. including Native American Ministries, Travel the Road, Mission Aviation Fellowship, LAMP Ministries East European Missions Network and All Tribes Fellowship.

Finally, the "house church" fellowship, or "St. Brendan's in the Pines House Church"  meets in our home near Isanti, MN, that we pray will become a regular and growing ministry with a group of people deeply committed to Scripture, worship, intercessory prayer and prayer ministry. In March of 2008, St. Brendan's became a chapter of the Prayer Foundation, and in September of 2010, we were accepted as a mission start congregation of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ. LCMC is an association of Lutheran congregations and individuals who are free in Christ, accountable to one another, rooted in the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions and working together to fulfill Christ's Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations. We are also part of Life Together Churches, a Lutheran house-church network.

Who Are We?

We are Trinitarian. We believe in one God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three in one and one in three, the divine mystery of God. We place our faith in the Holy Bible as the divine and inspired word of God, that is "a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path." (Ps. 119 v105)

We are called to be Evangelical in our lives and ministry.

We are Charismatic in our spirituality.  We believe that the third person of the Triune God, the Holy Spirit is active, vital and ministering in the church today, in both miraculous and subtle ways. We believe in and are all blessed with Spiritual gifts from God, as defined in Scripture in Acts 2, Ephesians 4 and 1st Corinthians 14.

We are Lutheran in our heritage, theology, and practice of the sacraments.  Our religious background is Lutheran, and we are a mission congregation of the LCMC.  We believe in and cling to the statement of Martin Luther before the Diet of Worms, when he refused to recant from the his biblical writings, "My conscience is captive to the Word of God...Here I stand, I can do no other. God help me."

Fifth, we are missional, serving on and leading short-term missions trips to the Sioux Indian Nations in South Dakota and Eastern Europe.

We are monastic, and have chosen to live a life of Humility, Availability, Vulnerability and Integrity before God and before others. We  are members (lay oblate monks) of the Knights of Prayer Monastic Order based in Portland, Oregon and found on the Internet at The Prayer Foundation. In 1944, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German theologian wrote, "...the restoration of the church will surely come only from a new type of monasticism which has nothing in common with the old but a complete lack of compromise in a life lived in accordance with the Sermon on the Mount in the discipleship of Christ..." We are seeking to live a life of faith that Bonhoeffer was referring to.

We are Celtic in our heritage, from Ireland and Wales, and have found richness in the Christian faith as taught and practiced by the ancient Celtic Christian Saints including Patrick, Brigid, Columba, Aiden, and of course, St. Brendan the Navigator.

So, welcome on board friend, there's room for one more friend

To join us in St. Brendan's fine company.

We're bold and stout-hearted, our course God has charted.

We're travelers all going over the sea!
